From Paris to New York to Taipei, Shen Yun has been enthralling audiences around the world.

AFTER CLOSING OUT a spectacular two-week run at Lincoln Center in January, Shen Yun Performing Arts embarked on its 2011 world tour. With three companies touring simultaneously, Shen Yun will perform in over 80 cities across four continents between January and May.

ASIA-PACIFIC

Shen Yun’s International company performed in Hawaii before landing in South Korea for a series of performances starting January 19. From there, they toured New Zealand, and Australia (where they wowed Cate Blanchett among thousands of others who attended the shows in Sydney). On March 12, they started a tour of Taiwan and Japan that will last through May.

EUROPE
On the other side of the world, Shen Yun’s Touring company launched the European leg of the tour in February that will take them to ten countries across the continent, including shows at the Palais de Congres in Paris, the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in Florence as well as the London Coliseum in London.

NORTH AMERICA
Back in the U.S., Shen Yun’s New York company has been criss-crossing North America, from Toronto to Miami, Boston to San Diego performing to enthralled audiences young and old. Remarking on the show at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC, U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Regina Benjamin said: “I just loved it….my staff and my children were so excited with the colors and the music. It was wonderful.”

Ms. Chelsea Cai
Shen Yun Principal Dancer
ALTHOUGH SHE GREW UP in the west, multi-talented Chelsea was steeped in a traditional Chinese cultural upbringing. In addition to studying dance from the age of five, she also plays the pipa (Chinese lute) and the flute.

Regarding her studies at Fei Tian Academy of the Arts, where she received her dance and cultural training for Shen Yun, Chelsea remarked, “All the traditional values that people are throwing away in modern society are actually important. And you need them if you want to dance Chinese dance well. It’s not just something shallow; you really need something on the inside, an understanding to be able to present something nice on the outside.”

Chelsea first performed with Shen Yun Performing Arts in 2007 in Holiday Wonders, and in 2008 joined the company on its world tour. In 2008, she was the gold medalist in the junior women’s division of NTDTV’s International Chinese Classical Dance Competition, and in 2009 and 2010 nearly repeated the feat in the women’s adult division, winning the silver medal.
